| In Venice, they're called conterie, a style of bead with a strong history in Venice. From long, thin rods of glass, Venetian seed bead are cut by hand using the "guillotine" method, that is rather like a chopping block. This makes them a bit uneven in length but authentic and keeping to the old ways of production. They are sold by weight. A 2 ounce pack of 11/0 contains more than 4,500 pieces. Obviously a 16/0 contains more pieces. An 8 ounce of 11/0 will be 4 time the quantity in 2 ounces. |
