| Blown Boro bead in an opaque black with exterior frit in a random pattern. The size is about 25mm in diameter and approximately 15mm end to end, though it varies as they are blown. Shape is a bit like a wheel, a litte squatty round, known in Italy as Cipolla (onion). These are stronger than our Moretti glass. Boro is a US product which is shipped to Italy to make such things as wine glasses by lampworkers. It is worked at a much higher temperature than Moretti. Handmade in Murano, Italy. The hole in the bead runs vertically and hole size varies as they are mouthblown. The colors on this one are a base of a opaque black with frit of bluish/silver.
Borosilicate glass was first developed by German glassmaker Otto Schott in the late 19th century[1] and sold under the brand name "Duran" in 1893. After Corning Glass Works introduced Pyrex in 1915, it became a synonym for borosilicate glass in the English-speaking world. |
