Christmas Scenes in Venice
Venice is a beautiful city in any season, but around Christmas it takes on a festive air when the lights come on at night and the stores stay open later. (And the stores all over Italy stay open even on Sunday - a treat for shopping.)
Only a few years ago, it was rare to find a Christmas tree in a home in Italy, but to my surprise when walking down the street in Venice last week, there was a small Christmas tree lot. The trees are tiny but cost only 8.9 Euro (about $14.00 US). So I began making pictures of how they are decorating for the season.
This Babbo Natale sits in the window of a great Pasticceria (Pastry Shop) with enticing sweets for the holidays. Even better if they also serve Cappuccino!

Even the vegetable market looks festive in the twilight - though it's cold!

This beautiful tree is just to the left of the Chiesa (church) San Marco. It draws the crowd to the beautiful Presepio (Manger Scene) and bright lights.
