Q. What is gold filled? A: Gold filled components are made from sheets of base metal that have been bonded under heat and pressure with a layer of solid gold. In the case of 14/20 gold filled components, there is a layer of 14kt gold which is at least 1/20th the total weight of the piece.
Gold filled components may contain hundreds to thousands of times more gold than plated products, and have the added benefit that the gold will not rub off over time, allowing for the creation of lasting pieces of jewelry.
