| Borosilicate Glass Blown bead featuring frit on half the bead. The bead is in a penny (flattened round) shape and lies great. The size is approximately 25mm, no two beads ever exactly alike as they are blown in Murano. The hole in the bead runs vertically and hole size varies since these are made at temperatures exceeding 820C or 1500F it is impossible to control the hole size, nominally about 2mm. The colors on this one are a base of a transparent topaz with frit of grayish/silver.
Borosilicate glass was first developed by German glassmaker Otto Schott in the late 19th century[1] and sold under the brand name "Duran" in 1893. After Corning Glass Works introduced Pyrex in 1915, it became a synonym for borosilicate glass in the English-speaking world. |
