Aventurina, Black and Red Stripes Murano Glass Chevron Bead Oval, 30mm

These are reproductions of ancient trade beads produced in Murano with mid 20th Century glass canes found in the furnaces. Unlike our handmade beads which are made on a mandrel, Chevrons begin as a single cane with the hole already in it as it is produced in the furnace, which is produced by blowing a bubble, therefore it is irregular in symmetry. The colors are the result of multiple layers of glass during production which are ground off to reveal the inner colors. Because these canes are not in production, there is a limited number of these available and each one unique. The colors in this one begin with a base of white covered with a layer of aventurina, followed by black and red. The black and red layers are ground off to leaving small stripes of color. These can be worn on a necklace as a single bead, and men wear them as well.
