A garden of color captured in glass, this beautiful 40mm fused Millefiori Murano Glass pendant combines shades of pink and white with an assortment of colorful Venetian glass canes, creating a design that is completely individual.
Millefiori, meaning “a thousand flowers” in Italian, is one of the most recognizable traditions of Venetian glassmaking. Intricate glass canes are created with patterns running through their entire length. The canes are then sliced into small cross-sections, revealing the tiny flowers, stars and geometric designs hidden within.
For this pendant, an assortment of colorful Millefiori cane slices is arranged against a transparent Murano Glass background and fused together. Pink and white provide the dominant color story, while the additional colors within the individual canes give the pendant its lively, mosaic-like character.
After the glass is fused, the surface is ground by hand, producing the exceptionally smooth finish that distinguishes these pendants. The polished transparent glass allows light to move through and around the colorful Millefiori patterns, revealing different details as the pendant is viewed from different angles.
Measuring approximately 40mm (4cm or about 1½ inches) in diameter, this is a substantial focal pendant that can easily become the centerpiece of a necklace.
A large silver-tone bail is already attached, making it easy to add the pendant to a chain, cord, ribbon, beaded necklace or other jewelry design.
One of the pleasures of Millefiori is its individuality. The assortment and placement of the colorful cane slices varies from pendant to pendant, so no two are exactly alike.
