Subtle taupe and ivory tones combine with the warm sparkle of avventurina in this sophisticated authentic Murano Glass bead, handmade in the furnaces of Murano, Italy.
Part of our Finestra, or “Window,” collection, this bead showcases the artistry possible with traditional Venetian blown glass. The design begins with a soft ivory glass base enriched with sparkling avventurina. Avventurina filigrana is incorporated into the bead to form its distinctive window-like pattern, while transparent sections of glass allow light to travel through the bead and reveal the layers within.
The result is a wonderful combination of opaque, sparkling and transparent glass. From one angle the bead appears rich and earthy; turn it toward the light and the transparent “windows” reveal another dimension to the design.
Its shape is called Cipolla, the Italian word for onion. In Venetian beadmaking, the term describes this softly flattened or squashed-round shape. The bead measures approximately 15mm along the direction of the hole and approximately 20mm in diameter, giving it a substantial profile without the weight you might expect from a solid glass bead.
Unlike traditional lampwork beads formed individually around a metal mandrel, these authentic Murano Glass beads are blown in the furnace by a maestro. Because the glass is shaped and blown by hand while molten, variations in size, form, pattern and hole diameter are natural characteristics of the process.
The hole is nominally 3mm in diameter, although it will vary slightly from bead to bead due to the handmade blown-glass technique.
The neutral combination of taupe, ivory, brown and black tones makes this bead exceptionally versatile. Pair it with warm topaz, ivory, black, bronze, avventurina or other earth-tone Murano Glass beads for necklaces, bracelets and statement earrings.
Each bead is individually handmade, and no two will be precisely alike—a beautiful reminder that these are authentic works of Venetian glass artistry rather than machine-made beads.
